I am installing a brand new GM 350CI 330 HP crate motor in my '75 and need a bit of advice. I need to know which intake and carb would work good on this car. I think GM recommends a 600CFM unit for this engine. Thanks much!!! Darrell

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
For you 330hp engine I would recommend the Edelbrock 2101 Performer intake. I had that on my 66 with a 600 CMF Holley carb and was well pleased with it. Lots of guys don't like the Holley but I've always had good service from them. The 750CMF on my 72 has been on it for over 6 years and has never required an adjustment. I'm sure you will get other opinions.

A 750 cfm carb is a bit too much for that engine unless you either change the jetting or live at high rpm's most of the time and can live with some low end stumble for the high end power. A 600 or 650 is most appropriate for the street.
There are two intakes I would think best...either the Edelbrock 2101 Performer as already mentioned or the Edelbrock 2701 Performer EPS. The EPS is optimized specifically for square-bore carbs (the 2101 is for both square- and spread-bore carbs and is a bit of a compromise). It shows somewhat higher horsepower and torque numbers than the standard Performer, but costs a bit more. It's up to you...both are fine intakes. The 2101 is slightly lower in profile and will fit under the hood better, but either will work fine...the EPS may require a drop down air cleaner base.
I'm not a big fan of Holley carburetors...they're good, but I believe they've ridden on their past reputation for many, many years. For a street car I would prefer an Edelbrock 1406 600 or a Demon carb of the same 600-650 specs. Holley's OK...don't get me wrong. I just think the others are better.
If you really want that 350/330 to go...I decided to forego a carb. I went with fuel injection...more expensive but worth it.
You dont have a lot of options with a C-3 with a stock hood, you cant use a high rise manifold,I have the 2101 on mine with a Q-jet and a low profile air cleaner,I have about a half inch clearence between the hood and the top of the wing nut
,ya wanna be sure of your clearance b-4 you drop that hood and see your air cleaner bolt stickin through it,most of the manifold builders will tell you wether it will fit a corvette or not
,if in doubt ,ask

I've run a Performer RPM and an Air Gap under the stock hoot on a 79 with an Edelbrock 600 CFM Performer carb - low profile 2" air cleaner and cleared the stock hood with a 1/2" to spare.

This is from an earlier post on my motor
I am running an RPM manifold with a Berry Grant 650 dbl pumper carb. I had to go with a drop base air filter housing and I think the K&N is 3" tall. Just barely clears the hood.
I forgot to add I have a 1/2" carb spacer so the accelerator pump clears the manifold. |
