Hey guys I have a question. I started cleaning the intake manifold and I got a lot of rust and grease off, I need to go to wal-mart and get some degreaser, and go to pep boys and get blue chevy paint. But my question is... Where the thermostat houing site on top of, there is some deep rust in there: http://fattyslims.com/vette/pics/other/intakehousing.jpg I let the Lime-A-Way sit in there and it got liek 20% of the rust off. I used it on the top of the manifold and sides and it all came off. But how can I get that rust out of there?
Thanks,
-Louis

Well I can't think of the name of it. You can buy it lowes or walmart in the painting and chemical areas. Its a ? Acid. It will eat away the rust. Just pour it in a tub and place the whole intake inside of it.
If the surface around the water neck where the thremostat inlays is pitted you will want to spread a light bead of non-harding sealer around the lip and smear it in with your finger. Then install the thermostat, gasket and finally the housing. This will ensure you have a a leak free seal.

Hi Louis
If your manifold looks like that then the inside of your heads and block are probably the same. When you reassemble the engine you might want to think about using a good chemical flush on the whole system.

Then just make sure the inside of the intake is cleaned. If it's still off the car, why not have it hot tanked? You could use some navel jelly first to cut the rust, then tank it.
