I don't think it's the engine Jim. Check all the wires real close. Bet it's something real simple.
I run mine up to 6 grand all the time with no problems.
I know how you must be feeling....but hang in there

Hey Jim..."Got Gas?"

Sorry man...couldn't help it...

I bet it's something silly, too...probably a burnt/loose wire somewhere.

Jim, when I first started mine I had Distributer and Carb setting problems. Once I checked them out I found the timming off. The book said one thing and the paper work said another, just keep going over everthing. Sometimes a burnt wire is hard to find unless you check each and every one, look for a little white spot, maybe a broken spark plug? Hang in there..

I think I fixeded it...

I found one spark plug wire on #2 not plugged in all the way. The Transmission modulator was disconnected and the fuel line was kinked so I wasn't getting any fuel. The Primary bowl sight glass was completely dry.

Ray - I took the in-line fuel filter off and put a new piece of line on it. I'm gonna have to come up with a better plan.

Bottom line - It runs again... I'll take it on a couple of shake down runs now.

That's great, Jim!!

but...please don't tell us you got some rubber fuel line up there by the carb...I'd hate to see you post that all your (and Ray's) hard work just went up in flames...

I've got a metal fuel rail for teh duel feeds into the carb. My problem is that the way the hard fuel line comes up the front of the engine and makes the 90 there isn't room to put an in line filter in place. SO for the moment (IOW while I've been testing over the last 2 days, I took the filter back out and put a piece of rubber fuel line in to make the 90  and hook into the fuel rail.  I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it up.  Not a lot of room under there. I have some braided line I could put up there if it'd be better.

BTW, the valves are quiet again and the stutter seems to be gone.

Hey Ray, if you're gonna be home on Sunday afternoon or Monday I could run on over to your place and we can take another listen to the valves. I don't hear anything any more.

I've been as guilty as anyone when it comes to using a rubber fuel hose up there...it still scares me, tho! Ya just never know when it might start leaking.
Braided line would probably be better, if it's something that you could hook up and make work, without making the transition from hard-line to carb a PITA.

I'm glad ya got it figured out, and singing again, anyway!

Jim, I used the braided, don't take a chance, Here is the set up I used, you can build almost anything..
