dnv,

Heads and headers are in the future. Thanks for the info on the non-mexican 993's.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
Find a June issue of Corvette Enthusiast magazine.  There is my engine build up step by step on my 75 L-48.  I think you will find it interesting.

The MSD dist cleaned up the exhaust a bit, but did not help HP.
The intake, headers and dual exhaust took it from 161 hp and 232 ft lbs torque to 175 and 234.   The VooDoo cam and lifters and timing chain resulted in 189 hp and 249 ft lbs.  Removing the heads and porting them with a slight .015 shave resulted with 206 hp and 254 ft lbs.
Mileage went from 16 to 17.5.  Quarter mile time from 16.5 to about 15.0

Still has the stock pistons, and runs on 87 octane.

KSTYER's build sounds right on. I'll be digging up a copy of it on my days off.
Thanks for the help. I'm hooked!

In late August I asked for and recieved lots of helpful information from y'all about my "L-48 Wake Up". I appreciated all the help and still do.
In the mean time I suspected that the valve guide seals were already letting some oil get by. (I had them done about 4 years ago by "Bubba" when I got the Vette) Recently another mechanic took a look and pointed out what a lousy job the last guy did on the seals. He did the job the right way and adjusted the rocker arms correctly. After he did the plugs and wires (correctly) I ran out of dough.
The helpful information I got from all of you will not go to waste. It'll just have to be put on hold until I put together a few more sheckles to continue. ( And no more trips to Bubba's Garage - I promise!)

P.S.   The exhaust sounds a bit deeper now that the rocker arms are on right. And I swear it runs better already. I look forward to finishing up the manifold, distributer and carb rebuild. And I'm sure I'll have lots more questions.
                                                                                         Thanx!

Thanks for the update. Little by little, continuous improvement as funds allow is what it is all about.
Good luck with the project.

THE L-48 WOKE UP! Big%20smile

Back in October I asked for advice on getting my L-48 motor in shape.

Today my mechanic and I finished up with the rebuilt carb., Edelbrock Performer intake manifold & the Mallory dist.

It runs great!!! I know it'll never be a horsepower giant, but for what it is ,it really seems improved!

I'm a little tentative about the bad reputation Mallory has. If it screws up, I'll dig a little deeper and get the MSD.

A big round of 'thank you's' to you folks for answering my questions on this thread and others!
