Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

Follow the adjustment sequence in the manual.  But if you very slowly tighten the rockers, and hold on to the push rod, you can feel the play in the rod.   Very slowly tighten then down while wiggling the bottom of the push rod back and forth sideways.  You will be able to feel the zero play point.  From there tighten it an additional one turn per specs for new lifters.   If done correctly, you can put the valve covers back on and fire it up already in proper adjustment.

Another method is to tighten the up until the new lifter is fully collasped and then loosen them one turn.   Factory lifters have a travel of two full turns for fully up to fully collasped.  The one turn centers them.

The the way I do it is install the cam, lifters, pushrods and rocker, rockers are set loose, before I install the intake I pre lube the motor making sure I see oil at the rockers, I then rotate the motor setting the rockers at O, for me its easier to set the lifter with the intake off to make sure the lifter is at the bottom of the base circle, after all the lifters are set at O I then add an additional 1/2 turn to all the rocker nuts, yes I know the books says 1 full turn, but I don't like to run Hyd's tight, 1/2 to 3/4 works just fine, then I go ahead and finish up, I make sure to run a can of GM Engine Supplament in the oil during cam breakin.
