Check the engine stamp pad, on the pass side, just in front of the head. If it is the orig. engine, it will have the last 5 numbers of the VIN stamped on it, as well as the date code for assembly, and the engine suffix code. There are other threads here that will give you specifics on locating the pad...

t05141yb = Tonawanda assy. Plant, May 14th assy. date.(You would need to get the casting date off the block to determine the year.)
Check the last 3 characters again...the "1" may actually be an "I". That would make the engine "suffix" code IYB, which is definitely not a Corvette engine.
119z353390...don't know about this one, but the last series of numbers should indicate the VIN of the car it came out of...again, not a Corvette.
These are numbers I don't have any info on...

You need to look for a 3970010 or 3963512 on the engine where Scott (Ranger3) said to look......I think it's the passenger side.

Micki,
Those block casting numbers will be near the firewall on the center of the block near where the bell housing intersects. The VIN sequence is on the pad forward of the passenger side cylinder head.

OK I got the numbers off the forward part of the engine right above the water pump next to the passenger side cyclener head. Just like the pictures showed. Should I check next to the bell housing on the back of the engine passenger side? I got the numbers where the picture said engine ID.
