Last time I took my Vette in for an oil change the regurler guy was not in.The boy that did my oil change put in one too my qts. What can happen?Right after that happened my sister passed away so I never went back and double checked the oil level. Now I hear a ticking noise under my right hand valve cover. Is this just happenstance or is something going on here?Sounds like a collapesed(sp) lifter.

Not likely to be related to being overfilled with oil. Are you sure it is a lifter-like noise? A lot of times, a small exhuast leak in the area will sound like a lifter tapping.
As long as the pressure is up there where it should be, the noise is most likely just a co-inky-dink, as related to being overfilled. It is something you should check out, tho...don't want to let it go too long without fixing the problem.
Also, if you still have the "miss-fire"(cross-fire) engine, could you possibly be hearing the injectors firing? They "tick" a lot like a loose lifter at times.

I do still have the CF engine.I don't think it's the injectors. It was quite loud when I first fired it up and after the trip home from work(45min)it had settled down quite a bit???It didn't make this noise yesterday!!

Sounds like the lifter may have been stuck after sitting awhile. I would keep an ear to the cover for awhile and see how it goes. If it stays everpresent then tear into it. If it stays away then woooraay!

I've got a stock room(what my wife calls it)of Vette parts but no lifters or cams.zgator 2006-12-12 17:17:38

A "loose" lifter won't hurt the cam at all. I would drive if for a few more times before condemning anything. It is possible that one of the lifters just up & decided to take a dump. If it is a lifter problem, it can be taken care of by removing the intake, and the valve-covers.Adams' Apple 2006-12-12 20:11:39

Pick up one of those stethiscopes for cars. Its the thing doctors put in their ears to listen to your heart, but has a rod on the end of it. Their cheap,,, maybe $10
Then you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from

Joel has ya covered here. Lifter removal is a fairly simple surgery. If the sound doesn't go away and you decide to fix it yourself remove the valve cover and start it up. Put some rags over the exhaust cause it should squirt some oil up through the rocker assembly. This won't be that much but you can then tell for sure which rocker assembly / lifter is giving you the ticking noise. You might with a little luck be able to snug the rocker assembly down and the noise go away. Or replace the that rocker and fix the problem.
Good Luck...
