Anybody have some ideas on the "best bang for your buck" mod??? Looking for some power under a thousand??

If you still have a paper element air filter chuck it and get a K&N 

A new cam and lifters will get the most for $ if you are able to do the work yourself. A performer intake is a good start for $100. Another cheap improvement is to have the distributor recurved. For real improvements you can get some knew heads to go with the cam and intake. These are all bolt-on improvements that can always be changed back at a later time.
But why would anyone want to do that?
