Today we pulled the motor and tranny the took apart the engine and a few questions came up that I hope you folks could help me answer.

1, what was the stock bore diameter in a 1968 427/390? it checks 4.290 dia

2, I need a new oil pan, any suggestions? I found some on e-bay for $35.00 sounds kind of cheep.

3, Now that the engine is out are the some must-do's in the engine compartment? like replace some wire's, new heat shield around the tranny. any ideas would be appreciated.

Standard bore for a 427 is 4.25.
In regards to the oil pan, you get what you pay for.  $35.00 sounds cheap to me.  I've seen some nice ones on ebay, but you will pay more and I recommend it.

While the engine is out a must is to replace the rear seal, as I'm sure it will start leaking just as soon as you put the engine back in and then you have to do it again.  Murphy's law!  You will probably want to pull a bearing or two and inspect them for wear.  There is lots that can be done, but these are the must do in my book.

When it comes to items like oil pans and valve covers, you definitely get what you pay for. If you don't re-use your original oil pan, get one at least equal to oe quality or a quality aluminum pan.

The same goes for valve covers. The cheaper ones may look great being shiny chrome, but are made of thinner gauge steel that flexes and you'll have problems keeping them from leaking. I found that out the hard way on a different car I used to own. I put really nice looking chrome valve covers on it and the hold down screws would constantly back off from the flexing and oil would constantly seep. Once I replaced them with heavy gauge (and more expensive) valve covers the problem was solved.

Make sure you buy quality...it pays in the long run.

You may want to Plasticgauge ( measure bearing clearance ) the bearings while you are there.  It' s a lot easier to check and/or replace bearings now, and save a lot of time and damage later.
