|laugh| i hate to boast, but my 75 with the 700R4 does about 350 miles on 41 liters of gas
(4.54 liters per imp gal) thats at my normal cruise of 120 K. The engine is a rebuilt 350 with a mild performance cam and edelbrock intake and stock QJ, and thats on mountain roads. Even at that I think it is running a little rich. I had it rebuilt last year and it now has about 3500 miles on it. I have no idea what the rear end ratio is though, but I get 1500 Rpm at 60 Mph, and 80 mph at about 2100 Rpm if the guages read right.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

I have a couple of questions. First how many american MPG is this equal to?
Second, Are you sure that you have a 700R4? The standard trans for that model is a turbo hydro 350. |headscratch|

I looked up the conversion chart, and 41 liters is equal to 10.8311 gal. That calculates to about 32.37 miles per gal. That is hard to beat!!! It only beats mine by about 20 MPG...

Do you have a metric speedometer in that vette? All new vettes sent to Canada were equipped that way.

If it is 350 kilometers that you mean, it calculates to 20.08 miles per gal. That is still real good.
Much better than mine...

By the info I have, the rear axel is a 2.73. If that is what is in your car, along with a 700R4 OD, you would be doing real good with gas mileage. your engine hardly turns, according to mine.

I have thought about installing a 700R4 in mine, but I hate to mess up the originality of mine.
Bowtie trans sells a kit, with trans, shift link, new trans labeling, new crossmember, etc. But it is kinda pricey. $1800 for my vette.

I read a posting from a guy that changed his, and he said it made a difference of night and day in performance of his vette.

I just put a 383 stroker in mine and with my 3.55 rear and original Muncie 4 sp I am getting about 18 mpg. With approx. 470 - 490 hp I have no real complaints other than not a lot of bottom end torque but she just flies above 3500 - 6800 rpm.
