Mine is mounted where two righthand screws are in the firewall behind the booster and the lefthand screws are on a bracket thats bent a little less than 90 deg and screwed to the firewall.

It looks really neat, but as far as I know Crossfire Corp. is out of business. I bought mine from Jegs and I have'nt seen them anywhere else.

ive seen the msd box mounted on the OUTSIDE of the firewall area in the wiper well area, as well as tucked into the fender out of sight.

can anyone tell me how well the msd box works? is it worth it to have it?

Mine only had a wire come loose on the tach output that was an easy solder job, but other than that its never misfired. I did'nt put it on because of spark problems though, just wanted all the spark I could get along with a hotter coil pack, and splitfire platinum plugs with the gap opened up, and 8mm wires.

Is the MSD set up worth it?  Absolutely, I can't believe how much of a difference it has made.  With a mild engine you will notice less of a difference than you would with high performance and high compression, but you should still notice a difference.

I mounted mine inside the fender on the passenger side.  Its bolted to the rear of the wheel well.  I like this location because unless you stick your head near the valve cover and look back inside the fender its impossible to see it.  I ran the wiring along with the A/C harness so everything looks totally stock.

Another thing to consider, with the 6AL box it is very easy to install an ignition kill switch that could be very difficult for a theif to find.  And since my wiring runs along with the factory harness you really have to know how a MSD works to find them and hotwire it.  Its not impossible to steal but they would sure need extra time to do it.

If you want further info on how I mounted it, let me know.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

MSD is more than a name brand.

It stands for Multiple Spark Discharge.  It actually fires the plug, stops, and fires it again.  It does this several times everytime a plug fires.  The reason is to extend the spark time in the cylinder.   Coils cannot continue to fire for as long of a duration as MSD can achieve.  This long duration exposes far more fuel directly to a spark, which make for a more complete and efficent burn.

There are other aftermarket ignition systems that does the same thing.  Very good stuff for a performance engine.
