Hi,
I'm looking to replace the stock mufflers with something else on my 80. I have looked at dynomax, and flowmasters and wanted to get some opinions on what other vette drivers like. I am looking for a nice throaty rumble that wont drive my neighbors too crazy when I start it up. If anyone has sound bytes of exhaust sytems that I can listen to or know where to find some, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

-S....I have Monza tips that are "mufflers" and I love the sound, but then again I don't care about my neighbors. They look great, and mine are old. Rosie (the forum's "Primer Vette")has the same set on her but those are chrome with red interior, looks hot, and probably sounds great, I can't get you a sound byte, but maybe ask, LakotasRose(Rosie's owner)

I have Flowmaster 50's on my Collectors Edition and I love them. Not too loud and small interior resonance.

I don't have a recording of what Rosie sounds like...but if you are looking for a real ''throaty'' sound...Monzas are it!!!!...What I like most about them is that you really HEAR them at the lower speeds ..but they are NOT too loud when at cruizin speeds (60-70-80 MPH |biggrin| )
Only thing that I have noticed is the resonance..at around 35-40MPH that can get a bit ''much''..good thing that you don't HAVE to drive at that speed all the time!!!!

Would you like a REAL throaty rumble? Listen to a set of chambered pipes.....same set up and sound as side pipes but exit out the rear. Vehicle sound is indeed a personal preference, and for me that sound is the sound of chambered pipes..... |biggrin| |biggrin| |biggrin|

Thanks for the replys! I think i'm going to go for the Flowmaster 40's or 50's. I went to flowmaster mufflers web site and they have some sound clips which were great.

Glad we could help, sad to see you leaving the Monzas off, but if the neighbors are a factor its probably for the best =) Just gotta love the loud pipes tho!

I have the Flowmaster 40s on my '77. They are great. I still wouldn't mind going louder. The family doesn't get scared when I pull away from home.

I'll trade yah man. I drove home from Upstate NY yesterday and after 6.5 hrs at 65-70mph with the Monza pipes my ears are still ringing |frown| |frown| |eek| Not sure I want to do that again.
