Can anyone tell me what the right angled gear in the trans which connects to the speedo cable is called? I have heard it referred to as a 'compensator'.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I've checked the assembly manual, Haynes and Chiltons. None list it. Corvette America lists a Speedo/Tachometer Adapter (eliminates 90 degree bend in cable), but I think it is used up by the distributor. For some reason the name transducer comes to mind. Don't know why? Since I don't know the official name I'll call it a:

A transducer is the unit up on the left fender that operates your cruise control, with 2 speedo cables 1 up from the tranny 1 goes into the speedo Ive never seen a 90 degree elbow on a tranny. but have seen a lot of them on distributers.there is a C-shaped metal bracket that clamps to the speedo cable at the tranny that keeps it from kinking at the bend right there maybe thats what he is talking about.

It's really called a speed adaptor. It has a drive and driven gear inside that change the speed of the cable to fine-tune the speedometer when there isn't the correct gear ratio in the tranny (they only go in 6-mph increments at 60MPH) Joe
