Topic: New Engine Done, Before and After In Car
in Forum: C3 Engines
So many questions. Yes details will have to wait for mag. Mag will be Corvette enthusiast.
Valve covers I am especially proud of. They are original weiand pieces. They were on my C3 when I purchased the car. I took the liberty of sand blasting them removing the black wrink paint finish. I then took some oxide metal sand paper and a block of wood to sand the ribs down to a nice machined look. Reall simple and a more modern look then the old black finish. All the coil cap gaskets, breather cap gaskets, breather caps had either rusted or rotted away and were leaking a little oil. I then let my fingers do the walking through a mR gasket catalog and ordered up nice new chrome replacement pieces since most of these items are universal. That it. At work I have gotten lots of interest in these valve covers. Maybe I can get our product teams to consider reproducing them.
In the mean time if you are out looking through swap meet items, you might want to consider looking at old items and how to up date them.
Power, no I have not been on the dyno. I hope to be some time this week or next week. I expect it will make 400 Hp and 400 lb ft. Anything above that is gravy. I built the engine and block with the ideal that if I ever go back I could easily upgrade valve train, heads, cam and other items to easily add a lot more hp and torque. I guess I paid the piper now rather then later when it comes to other upgrades. This is where forward thinking and planning pays off. I have right at a $1600 just in block. Almost double what I have in the rotating assembly. But the block should be bullet proof unless I do something really stupid.
Thanks for all the kind comments. I can't wait to get the engine into the car, along with some of the other upgrades. You have no clue how much it is killing me not being able to drive my C3 coming into the summer months. I'm like a mad man right now trying to get everything done so I can enjoy it before the summer is gone.

You going to run under car exhaust or dump it out the side?
