Finally finished my new rebuild after destroying the old engine due to a faulty blow off plate on the 671.
I'm sure crate engines are more than adequate and reliable, however i decided to build a new engine from the start.
bought a brand new 4 bolt main block and the fun began...
Forged scat crank, Mildon high volume oil pump, Lunati "I" beam 6" rods, SRP flat tops with full floating piston pins, and head studs sealed with Holden (Australian GM) head stud sealer.
aluminium heads, stainless valves, roller rockers, thumper cam, Rollmaster red series duel timing chain, two piece timing cover,Flowmaster high rise intake, holley 750 double pumper.
crank has 6.5 thou end float, pistons 2.5 thou clearance and all sealed up with felpro gaskets and seals. I have put a few pics below

When are you going to have it dropped in or is it already. Is that the picture of the car with the new engine in it. What is the expected Horse Power on that beast.

Sweet looking power plant! I'm glad I went the rebuild way vs. a crate motor, too. I think you'll be making a few more ponies than me, tho.
1976 Silver/Firethorn. L48, 4spd. Original 2 bolt, vortec heads, 9.4:1 CR, Speed Pro Cam: 224/224@0.050, 112 LSA, Eagle Steel Crank.

The engine is installed and only just run in. i have added about 1200 miles to the speedo since install. the photo of the car below my post was when I was running the 671 blower, that is not the engine I have built just recently, and with the blower on I was getting around 532 BHP @ 6450 RPM. I have not tested the new engine on a Dyno yet I will wait a while.this is a pic just after the engine went in.

'68-'69 L88s and the ZL1 had 560 hp.....they did have some heavy dooty drive-line components, but the basic suspension was stock.
