Topic: New head advise
in Forum: C3 Engines
My vette had the engine rebuilt about 1000 miles ago by the PO. He mentioned that it had larger heads that were not original. I was thinking of adding some performance to the engine (seeing it had just been rebuilt) with new intake and cam if the heads were decent performance heads.
This weekend I checked the heads (they look in good shape), they are serial number 333882. I checked on a couple of websites and some folks say that this is not a good performance head, and has the possiblitiy of cracking near the exhaust ports. Have any of you heard this before?
So now I'm wondering if it's worth putting any money into this 2 bolt engine. So what do you think:
1. Should I get new heads (if so which ones), upgrade the cam, and intake? Or...
2. Should I get a crate engine?
My goal is not to keep it stock (look close to stock) good performance for street, maybe strip every once in a while, but street is what it is for. Also would like to use it as a driver when nice.

GM Performance has a great selection, as does Edelbrock and other suppliers. Look at a Summit Racing or Jeg's catalog for some ideas.
