About 4 months ago I bought 2 locking style motor mounts from Mid-America (Item#160652)
and the inside diameter is exactly 1/4" to wide and cannot be used! I
am in the middle of installing the Hookers and doing the mounts
while I have the area clear; now I am dead in the water and really mad!
These mounts are for 63 to 82 and I have an 82, the packaging and the invoice also state this. They arrived in sealed bags with the above item number.
Is it me? Has anyone else had this problem with their motor mounts?

Thanks!

Have you called Mid America and asked for a service rep? Might be hard to catch this week, but should be in next week. I've always found them to be helpful and quick to turn a part that is bad or wrong.
I got my mounts from Ecklers, but they all come from the same source. Didn't have an issue with them.

I'd agree on checking with MA first...
I do not understand the description of the issue, tho...you say "the inside diameter is exactly 1/4" to wide"....?
This is a "saddle" type mount, and should fit down over the steel mount/bracket on the frame...what part exactly is too wide?
I'm probably missing something here, but..it's early in the morning yet for me...

We have two motor mounts in stock, both claiming to be 63-82 locking mounts. One is 2 5/8" inside the tabs, and one is 2 7/8". Don't ask me why. They are quite different in construction of the tab area (where it fits over the frame).

The part that bolts to the frame mount is 1/4" to wide. The old mount I pulled off is 2 5/8" and the new one that does not fit is 2 7/8 - it fits but has way to much of a gap to be used. As Larry said, this is quite a difference in the tab area where it fits over the frame.
I was able to get another pair of mounts at the local auto store this morning (Energy Suspension Brand) so I can get this done this weekend.
I have not called Mid America yet, will probable wait until Monday - been on the phone all morning as my mom was in an accident this morning in Phoenix and I'm trying to get her car towed to my house - what a pain in the Arse! This car only had liability insurance and it was her fault.....
Mom is okay, just shook up some.
Thanks!

I am 99% sure that Mid America will correct the issue even though it is after the fact now for you.
Unfortunitly or fortunitly all they will be able to do is refund or credit your purchase.
Dave M. had the same issue with motor mounts during his install of Hooker sidepipes.
Another thing to keep in mind is that all of these places are selling someone elses product. So if the product isn't quite right they need to know in order to make the supplier aware for corrections.

Phil, I used the poly mounts that are sold in the black and yellow packaging (forgot the brand name - just suspension or energy suspension - something like that). Fit like a charm and most parts places carry them in stock...

Don't remind me
, I lost track of what the final ones were. Glad the right ones are in there now.

I'll tell ya, after those side pipes/headers are all bolted up, you may as well have solid motor mounts in there.
A hint on the header install, get all the bolts in , only a few threads, then get the side pipes attached to the headers, then bolt the side pipes to the frame, tight. Then go and torque the header bolts down.
The gaskets that came with the headers were shot in a few months because the bolts loosened up. I replaced them with embosed copper ones made for those headers and changed the bolts to 3/8" hex heads so I could get a wrench on them (they are too close to the header tubes).
So far no problems.
Good luck,
Dave

I was told by someone on my local forum that there is two different SB Chevy motor mounts, evidently I received the ones that are for a 305 and not for a 350. I did go to my local parts place this morning and got a pair of Energy Suspension brand and they seem like good quality mounts - they also fit perfectly. Thanks Luke!
I will call MAM Monday and inform them of my issues; like Tux said they should make it right with a refund or credit. I would hope they have figured it out by now.
I will post some pics of my Hookers install progress in my other thread.
Thanks all!

Dave,
Thanks for the info. I just have the right side header mounted - with the bolts tightened, no side pipe on yet.... I will follow your advice when I do the other side in the morning. I am using a so called reusable gasket that is made out of copper/aluminum that is high heat header rated, also using the hex header bolts - hopefully I will not have a problem.
