Vette(s): 1978 greenwood custom vette, 468 blower motor side pipes.
changed all the plugs this morning started right up with a small puff of smoke more of a grey color, then it went away. Took it for a spin around the block ran good.
When you rev the engine in neutral you get slight puffs of black smoke, so I know that the carbs are on the rich side.
When the motor was built he put in a blower kit in the carbs which eliminated the power valve?
Also this is a 1969 427 motor bored out to 468.
Should I try to lean out the carbs with the mixture screws or let it run rich?
Also the pulleys I have on the motor only produce about 1 pound of boost, the blower is more for show.
Although the motor still probably has 500 h.p.
Any suggestions?? |saluteflag|

Vette(s): 1972 Coupe Anything, but Stock and more mods to come! SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
If you don't get them dialed in correctly, then you will keep experiencing the same problem with the plugs fouling. Not sure about the power valve thing. Only way to tell is to take the fuel bowls off to see if they are present.

Scot,
Hope that takes care of your problem. If not, R & J Competition Engines, Inc. is supposed to be pretty good. I hate to recommend places I haven't used, but Kenny of Art's Corvette Parts thinks they're pretty sharp. I wouldn't take that monster to just anybody. Good luck!

would changing the coil to a high output like a msd system help the fuel to burn more efficiently.
There is a new coil in the car now but not one of the super high output ones?? |saluteflag|

there was a discussion thread about this recently..

to summarize.. yes it will help you somewhat.

changing to an MSD igntion will give you multiple sparks up until around 3000 RPM.. a high output coil will help you get a cleaner burn.. but you need to replace your entire system to match your new setup... get the right plugs, get hipo wires and such.

a high output coil with a standard system isnt going to help much it at all... and it can actually make your problem worse if you dont do it right.. (high power coil through crappy wires can give you spark jump)

I would suggest you look at readjusting your carb(s) first
