HI!!! Everyone
I have a question for ya
I just put a crate engine in an ran it for about an hour so far
10 min to come up to temp
10 min to set base timming
20 min cam breakin
and another 10-20 min to find the coolant leak
the engine is leaking coolant between the block and head at the #1 cylinder.
I called the dealer they said to retorque the head bolts,If that doesn't work replace the head gasket,if that doesn't work they will send a new head.
My question is....... When I pulled the dipstick the oil looked brown like hot chocolate.
Sooooo I drained the oil into a clean white plastic jug...
It came out greenish brown and foamy( the engine hasent been run in several days(2-3 days)
The oil is as thin as watter(5w-30) and its only 19 degrees here in Ohio????
Is the oil supposed to look like this
Thanks
Art

You have water in the oil from the head gasket leaking. You can try to torque the head, but I doubt that will fix it. I wouldn't run it until you drained the oil and put in fresh. That is the quick fix, but I bet you need to replace the head gasket.

Change the head gasket, change the oil, Make sure when you put the heads back on they are torqued properly. If you still have a leak get a hold of whoever you bought the engine from and make them send a new engine. Me personally, even if it fixes the problem i'd make them pay for a new set of head gaskets, oil, etc, etc. That's what they have QC for, for an engine to get out the door like that, something's broke at the factory. Just my 2 cents. |cussing|

personally, I don't think I'd go any further than re-torquing the head. last time I checked, crate engines weren't cheap. didn't you buy it so you wouldn't have to deal with all the problems of building one yourself? the thing should be right when you get it. I understand mistakes happen. good companies fix their mistakes. if re-torquing the head doesn't fix the problem, I'd tell them to come and pick it up.
by the way, who'd you but it from? think we'd all like to know. keep us posted.
Hank
