Actually I ordered them from a chevy dealer on their website. Which I had originally found through goodwrench. It's been a while, I don't remember the details, I had ordered a bunch of them.

I think when the Dana corp. bought, or came aboard with Fram, the quality was not as good, I use Wix filters, I think NAPA filters are made by Wix.
About the antidrain back valve, since the filter is in the upright position, the oil can't go anywhere.

The antidrain back valve still helps a bit. It not as important as if the filter was the other way. But it does help keep the oil from draining out of the passages. This is not a lot of volume, but it does make some difference. Every slight advantage helps.
