Since we were just talking about oil types, I was wondering what type of oil filter everyone uses and experience with them. Since they do not make the PF25 anymore I am debating what filter to use.

Can anyone come up with a reason why we can't go to a larger filter. The increased filter area could certainly be beneficial. If it's a fit issue, then it's senseless to even pursue it any further. Thanks....I like Wix, myself.

Maybe the longer filter would be to close to some brands of headers?
I know some who have used the longer filter on chevelles, camaros, ect. I now use NAPA Gold for what its worth

Don't know if you can get them down there, but a mechanic friend of mine said Quaker State was the best 'cause they have a valve in the bottom that stops the filter from draining dry when engine is off.Oil pressure builds much faster on start-up.

All good filters have the drain back valve. Garbage ones do not. All have bypass valves.
Several years ago a parts man and I cut several different types of filters apart to see what was inside. The difference was amazing. Some have very little filtering material, and some had a huge amounts. Some material is barely able to filter because the material is so course and open. Some have tight fibers to catch almost everything. Some have nothing but cardboard as holding material, others have steel. I have seen the springs on the bypass valve go from a coil spring, to a flex tin, to cardboard.
The NAPA gold is a great filter, so are Wix and Hastings. These are among the best, and not high priced. You find quality in all of these, and as much as 5 times or more the filter surface of the cheap ones.
A very very good but pricey one is Mobil. I have not opened a Bosch, but it appears to be one of the better ones.
STP, Fram and others in this group have a good name. But they are not nearly the quality of the others.
AC Delco is still a good filter, in between the above.
The off brand economy filters stop logs until they clog up or the valve lets loose and things the size of trucks could go through them. Usually about 5 miles of use.
The drain back valve is found on good filters, and keeps the oil in the filter and passages instead draining back into the pan when the car is shut off. This helps a lot to minimize dry start up. Really cuts down on engine wear. Up to half or even over half of your engine wear is at start up.
All filters have a bypass valve to allow oil flow around the filter material when the filter material is overloaded or clogs. They usually open at high RPM and by pass some oil. The cheapies clog fairly fast and spend the rest of their time bypassing, and not filtering. Depending on your engine, oil, and how long it's been in there, this can happen to the best of them. But it takes much longer due to the greater filtering surface.
If a longer filter is available and clears it is always a good thing. You have the same filter with more filtering material.

I use the bosch filter in mine..
I use the longer truck filter instead of the shorter ones that our vettes call for..
