When I backed the car out of the garage saturday, I noticed a small puddle of oil on the floor. When I came back, I cleaned the oil up and placed a sheet of white poster board under the front of the car. I checked it today, did some measurments and it appears to be coming from the area of the fuel pump.

When I had the oil changed a couple of months ago, the guy brought it to my attention that there was was a little oil around the fuel pump. He tried to tighten the bolts on the pump but they were tight.

What would cause a fuel pump to leak oil if the bolts are tight on the block? I can't stand an oil leak.  Please give me some suggestions as to what I need to do.

Thanks in  advance.

There are a couple of places in that area for a leak.
1) Fuel pump to "adaptor" plate gasket
2) Adaptor plate to block gasket
3) Fuel pump itself
Are you sure it's coming from there, and not leaking higher(intake/valve cover), and running down?
I would say go ahead and pull the pump and plate, and install new gaskets on both, if that's where the leak is. There is a chance that the pump itself is allowing oil to leak from the "weep" hole, in the side of the pump, tho they normally will leak fuel out of there. Check the pump flange for cracks, where the two bolts go.

Joel,

It's definitely not coming from the valve covers or intake. The side of the block is dry.

Should I just go ahead and have the fuel pump replaced, just in case it's not coming from the gaskets?

It shouldn't be too difficult to tell if it's the gaskets or the pump.  You just have to get under the car with a good light and take a look.  If it's the fuel pump it will be coming out of a hole on the side of the pump, near the bolts.

Check and see if it's coming from the front edge of the engine. There is a bolt that goes into the fuel pump cavaity, it may be loose and leaking. I had this problem and replaced the bolt with one that had silicone on the treads. Presto- no more leak
