I have found an oil leak where the dip stick goes into the oil pan, has anyone ever run across this and what did you do about it???

Thanks

Pull the upper part of the tube out of the pan. Check it for any deformities, or cracks. Clean the tube and the tube that it slides into in the pan with some brake cleaner. Then, put a small amount of Permatex Aviation Sealant on the outside of the upper tube, where it fits into the lower tube. Let it sit for a while. After five minutes or so, install the tube back into the pan. Then drive as needed!!
Now...if it is leaking where the lower tube support is welded to the pan, that's a bit more involved. You might get away with cleaning it very well, and using some silly-cone around it, and letting it dry completely. Otherwise, you will have to have the pan removed, and braized, or replaced.

I have some Permatex high-temp red rtv silicone gasket maker, will this work?

It will work on the pan tube bracket/brace just fine. It would work on the union between the two tubes also, just be vewy careful not to get so much on the tube that it winds up inside the engine.

As a side note...silly-cone sealants don't usually take paint very well, so if you are planning to paint the area to cover up the red silly-cone, don't be too suprised if the paint falls off of it(the silly-cone) after a week or so!

Update: After my frustration of the leak with the dip stick and to find out I was leaking out of the rear seal I brought my car in to the shop and have someone else look at it. They told me I didn't have enough vaccume from the pcv? how much pressure can there be on the lower end of a 427 that would put that kind of pressure on the oil pan gaskets & dip stick?

Please anyone

Is there a Mechanic in the house willing to offer some sound advise?

I'd go to another mechanic.  That's not what the PCV is for.  PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is just to allow any fumes that build up in the crank case to be drawn into the inlet and reburnt so they don't just vent to the atmosphere.  As long as you have a vented oil cap on your oil filler tube the PCV will work fine.  If you have a PCV valve that is stuck open, you may have a rough idling engine or other tuning problems.  If you are building up enough pressure in the bottom end of your engine that the mechanic feels it is pushing oil out, your dipstick would be trying to eject itself out of the hood.

I've never heard of a PCV valve causing oil leaks.

If you have a rear main leak (probably worn out) you will have to take the engine or tranny out to fix it.  Get everything else looked at while it's out.

The engine has been rebuilt, how mush pressure can there be on the oil pan? would not having the pcv create such pressure?
