honest Ron, it was there.

no rod poking thru.  just a hole.  my curiosity is getting to me.  I may have to drop the pan for a look see before I pull the engine.

If your dip stick is on the left I have three restored small block OEM Corvette oil pans with PS for sale after you rebuild the motor.

I'm pulling the engine no matter what the damage is.  time to do the mods I want to do.

thanks anips. I have a chrome oil pan.  bought it before I should have.  I'll give you a call when I find out if what I have or don't have.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one! There is some major damage there. If it overheated, then scattered, you most likely seized a rod, and it sheared a rod bolt off. The very least would be a crank, and a rod, to replace. I'll bet there's going to be some cyl. wall damage, also, depending on how hot, and how long it was hot, before she blew.
Now would be the time to bump it up!

Looks like to me the crank sheared.  You are probably in the market for a new short block.
