not really when first driving.. it should drop some as the car gets hot.. what was the pressure after a half hour of driving ?
You can't hardly have too much oil pressure.
They recomend 10 psi per 1000 rpm.
Every old, high mile car I have had I have added a high pressure, high volume oil pump.
As an engine wears allthe clearences increase as well as the oil pump wearing out.
I think a new oil pump is cheap insurance on an old engine!

Silver69 said: It stayed ther the entire ride. I also watched the engine temp and it was fine around 210. As I came to a stop the pressure would drop somewhat. Do you think I have a problem. |
no i think its fine..
what kind of oil are you using.. did you change it recently???
I have not changed it since I got it in late May and I've driven about 500-600 miles. I am going to change it this week and probably use a very good grade of 10W40. The engine has been rebuilt, I just don't know how long ago. Thanks for the information guys.

Silver,
Just another guy's input here, your pressure sounds fine. In fact, it sounds real good.
Don't mess with a thing.

i concur...
if you had said your oil was old and you used thin oil i would worry...
but with young thick oil... enjoy that pressure..
I put a hi vol pump in mine.. its off the needle on a cold start.. settles in around 50 at an idle... good solid 60+ above idle until ive been driving it 30-60 minutes.. then it settles in around 35-40 at idle and increases with RPM.

Im still a little concerned...
Personally I would run down to the local Auto Zone, Pep boys etc and buy a cheap mechanical oil pressure guage and unscrew you current sending unit out of the block and install the cheap guage into the block...and fire up that puppy...
If you want to check the pressure while driving just run the guage itself up onto the hood and duct tape it down then drive around the block ...
These cheap gauges may not be real accurate BUT close enough to giveyou a reading to compare with your 30+ year old Factory gauge.. or someone may have swapped in the incorrect sending unit...
In other words spending 20 bucks and 20 minutes to check should let you sleep a little better...
