I believe a 10W-30 should do fine for a street car.

Well, I didn't read the article cited above, but I've always ran straight 30wt in the '74.
Lately, tho, there has been a lot of hoopla over the newer oil formulations and additive packages. I am of a mind to start using the Delo 400 diesel oil in ALL of my cars now, except the Cad. I use it in the Mercedes diesel anyway... Seems that the diesel intended oils still have all of the properties to protect the cams/lifters in the older cars. I think I'll see what RHS has to say...

I'm a fan of Castrol GTX 10-40. Use it in everything I own and have achieved some pretty high milage out of my motors. I do like to add an ounce or 2 of Lucas additive. ( I have to admit to some oil loss every trip though )aceinthehole 2007-04-23 10:48:42

My engine builder put me on a strict diet of Quaker State 10-40 for the Corvette. Done good for almost 10 years. Now my Jaguar mechanic insists on Castol GTX 20-50 for the XJR.

Hi Mel, I've been using Castrol GTX 10-30 in my truck and suv. Use Castrol Sen-Tec 10-30 in Corvettes. We will be passing thru Clarksville on the 3rd or4th, will call before. Dick
