My engine builder put me on Rotella T 15W30 for the first 500 miles, then switched to Castrol Syntec 5W30 and Fram filter. I went to the Fram Racing Filter for the extra little bit of filtering protection.
Does anyone know if the magnet stuff that fits on the filter and on the drain plug is of any worth?

Absolutely !
Anything that will pull metal particles out of oil circulation is great. They can save huge amounts of wear, not to mention the prevention of catastrophic failure.

I read the article that Gunslinger posted and will now give Rotella 20W-40 a try (plus a bottle of Slick 50) for the next oil change. I have no idea what the previous owner was running.
The previous thread on Slick 50 really sold me. Both articles / threads makes sense to me.
As for the magnets, I echo the comment that pulling any metal out can't be a bad thing! So, it's worth a try. I intend to go with both a magnetic drain plug AND the magnetic oil filter jacket.
