Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.
The PCV valve I have been running was one I just grabbed at the parts store that was the right SIZE to fit perfectly in the custom valve covers.  Do now what the operational characteristics of it are, but when I recently removed the heads, it sure looked like it had been burning oil, as there was lots of black "goo" on the pistons and combustion chambers.  Is there much of difference in the operational characteristics of the various PCV valves, or is the main difference just the size and configuration of the case?  If they really are different, how do I determine which is the best to run with a given engine combo?
Thanks for any advice!

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
There is a difference. Depending on how much vacuum an engine makes, the tension spring  and weight of the little ball inside the valve, the unit could be stuck open or closed with a combo of not enough vac and too heavy a ball/spring or too much vac with a lighter ball/spring. The same case could have a dozen different specs for different engine charactaristics

I think stuck closed is worse than stuck open....

A good rule of thumb I always use is to compare my HP/TQ/Vac specs to a late 60s early 70s engine and try to mate it with the valve in the parts book. You may need to adjust the carb a bit but should work.
