I used the second version-The "Igniter II" This piece controls the dwell period-for the best spark @ any RPM by checking current levels in the coil. I also replaced my stock coil w/ the "Flamethrower II." The car runs great- starts up hot or cold first try- really woke up my engine and looks entirely stock (I painted the coil black). Will never run points again!!!

Hi
Never say never. |biggrin|
I installed the PERTRONIX 1 ignitor and I got told to always carry the points + condenser in the trunk in case the PERTRONIX gives up, which has happened to a few already.
Easy swap back and gets you home. |thumb|
Good luck Gunther

Ditto,

The P-1 literally fell apart on our car and the current one in there has an intermittant miss that has to do with the power lead.

Keep us informed as to your experience.

Hi
Yes, I also didn't watch it and connected the PERTRONIX behind the coil resistor. All worked fine till the radiator electrical fan started up. The engine kept on dying and I had to raise the idle RPM to above 1000 to get home.
This was due to the momentary Voltage drop and due to the resistor already keeping the PERTRONIX at minimum operating Voltage, it momentarily missed.
Now, after I corrected this and hooked it before the resistor, I can reduce the idle RPM again and even with both Ventilators starting up, all keeps running fine.
This PERTRONIX does need the full 12 Volts all the time.
Make sure, you have it connected this way.
Gunther

I'm interested to understand what has gone wrong with your Pertronix Ignitor or Ignitor II. Did the control module fail? The magnetic ring destruct? I'm wondering if I should buy as spare, in case mine fails. I've used an Ignitor in my '69 Vette (350/350). So far it's been great. Noticeable difference when starting, running cold, accelerating.

Thanks.

I also have had a Pertronix 1 installed for almost 5 years with no problem. I would like to know what happens when they go, maybe it is time to buy another and keep on hand in case the old goes. I will never use points again!

I have used the Petronix II and Flame thrower coil on my 72 for the last 3000 miles. It has been flawless to date. Easy to install and no maintenence. At this point I would recommend one highly. I bought it on the internet for 89.95, shipping included, and put my original parts in a bag in case I want to go back stock.

To the guy that asked me where I bought my Pertronix II for 89.95, I'm sorry, but I screwed up and erased your e-mail address. I hope you get this. I bought it on ebay. Go to Pertronix and you will see his auction. I just checked and he is still selling them for that price. It is johnsmustang.com out of Houston, Tx. He has an 800 number with his entry. Email me back if you don't find it and I will help if I can. Sorry for the screw up.
