What is it for? I'm showing some engine ignorance here! Mine is leaking, which sucks of course
. What tool do I use to remove it and reinstall it when I've got it cleaned and put thread sealant on it? Must be a monster Allen wrench! 1/2" or 9/16" I'm thinking. Anyone out there know?

I have one on each side ,one was the heater hose the other I have no clue, went to auto zone and bought a generic allen set for my 1/2 drive to fit it ,I ended up using it for my thermostat switch good spot and coulden't work better
went out to the garage to look at the allen size well like I said cheap set not marked on the allen itself.

Well, I can't budge it, so I'm wondering if it is really leaking. Hmmm. I'm getting a substance (oil or gas, hard to tell) on the intake manifold right below this plug, I thought it might be the carb, so I pulled it and rebuilt it and got the float set perfect, new gaskets throughout including the one on the manifold. Still got the leak. Could it be a warped piece on the carb? Or could it still be this plug?

Well I had a dark substance next to one intake manifold bold directly below the carb on the passenger side at first I coulden't fiqure what it was until it got bad enought (ENGINE OIL) tryed just putting some sealer on the bolt butt that diden,t last very long.over the weekend I replaced my intake manifold gasket did not use sealer except around water ports not on bolts drove a 100 miles and no more susbtance next to that bolt.
Looking at the old gasket you could see were it was leaking a very small amount of oil came up thure the bolt.

Well, that's gonna make my week fun. It makes sense, since this one sat up for 2 years or so. I was hoping that most of the gaskets would still be ok. I guess I'm fixin' to learn how to install an intake gasket
. Thanks for the heads up (again!)!
Gotta put off the a/c fix again...

there pretty simple the hard part is tearing down the car, only use a black non harding sealer arount the four water ports on the end of the manifold.take time to clean the surface of the manifold and head with a razor blade and then wipe down with a solvent like paint thinner or gasoline the serface needs to be smooth ,take care not to drop any thing down any of the openings .the manifold gasket will torq to 30 pounds, there is a order to go in tightening the bolts a little at a time until you reach that 30lbs,a chiltons manual from your local auto store will show you and maby have some tips to make your job easier.if you don't have a torq wrench,I would by one there about 30 bucks for a cheap one, also good for torking lug nuts and many other things on your car. first you will need to completly drain your radiator.I jack my vette up makes it easier on my back to work under the hood, will pretty much be a full day project also very inporaint remember the possition of your Distributor when you remove it the direction the rotor is pointing,
