Thought I would change my plug wires while I got things sorta apart. Changed the plugs ok. Old wires look original and fine to me with 49,000 miles on her. Should I change them or leave them alone? Car ran good last fall. I laid there under the passenger side just staring at 2 wires behind a "V" metal sheild that sneak behind the starter and just wondered, How on earth do you change them 2? I don't want to do it unless I can get new ones back the same way as original.
Any Ideas?

Jeff,
The "V" shield should not be too hard too take off.
The front 2 wires on each side should run between the motor mount & engine block after they come out of the "V."
Make sure the new wires are long enough. I bought a pair of Accel 8mm wires from Napa & I now have a set of Pertronix 7mm wires from Corvette Central. Both sets were long enough to do the job.
Good luck,
Anthony

I know the feelin, Jeff!
The wires can be changed, as Anthony says, by removing the boomerangs/"V"s. And the two front wires DO go between the engine mount and the block, which is where most folks just sit and shake their heads...
I replaced the ones on the '74 while I had the engine out for detailing...even tho I had a couple of wires that were just held together with electrical tape for a couple of years! I just didn't want to do it....

............best done on a lift.
Since my wifes car is no where near stock, I went with red MSD wires over the top. Now they match the red car!
Good Luck!

A trick I learned a while back was to leave the old wires in place untill you have the new ones ready to go. Carefully remove the distributor boot off the new wires. Next, cut the spark plug end off the old wires and tape them to the new wires. Then you can fish the new wires in while you pull the old wires out the other end. Takes a little time and it helps if you have a friend but I have done it by myself.

I didn't tackle the wires yet, but I did get my control arms with the new bushings and coils back in yesterday. I'll be back on the road soon.
