I know, sometimes getting data into my brain is like trying to shove a icecicle through a lead plate, just aint gonna happen.

Yeah, i seen a lot of chatter about the fans, most folks opting for  the spendy SPAL fans from Mid America... I am going for great performance , on a budget....

I think the flex a lite fans will do me just fine...

mid america orders them thru dewitts (spal fans). even sells them
cheaper than dewitts. understand about budgets but just a thought here
how i looked at it. i have listenned and read and kind of feel spal
fans to be the better fan to install. i would not want to go thru all
the trouble of installing a set of fans to find out they don't hold up.
sometimes better to spend the extra at the beginning. who knows, it
would be great if there was really truth in advertisingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing.

checkout these two sites,

this site has a good diagram.
scroll down to taming the wire beast on this site. visit the links referenced.

also I've read you have to go with an 1976 or later plugs, and uprade to 8mm wires with grounds. Ill be doing mine soon.

why would grounded wires be needed?

I know the fat-block cars had shielded, grounded wires, but that was because they didn't have all the sheet-metal shielding the the little blocks did. All of that stuff is for RF interference. I've just never heard about having to have them with an HEI system. Seems that there are several million GM cars out there without shielded/grounded HEI wires. Granted, the 8mm wires would be a good idea, just due to the available spark output of the HEI, but, grounded? Not too sure aboot that. Might learn something on this one.

I just read all of this post.  I am new here but I have been through this stuff on a number of Chevys to include my Vette, three Camaros and my Nova.

1. Replace the resistor wire from the coil to the fuse block.  remove the outside of the bulkhead connector, remove the spade for the resistor wire and replace the wire at the spade.  Anything less than a complete replacement will cause a reduction in voltage.  This method will prevent you from having an extra wire running through the firewall to the fuse block.

2. Go with the Spal fans.  In a Vette, anything less than that will result in cooling problems.  If you are using a temperature probe, insert it in the left side of the radiator.  If you are using a sending unit, the prime location for installation is in the intake manifold.

If your car is street driven more than raced, set your fans to come on at 200 and go off at 185.

Good Luck and have fun.

The braided wires I purchased came with and recommend using the grounds due to the higher voltage produced. Just following the instructions. doh
