Ok here is another update. Put on the rest of the parts. Had to space the Demon carb up a 1/2" to clear the vacuum port which may cause an issue with the hood and air cleaner. Did some measuring and I think I can use my stock hood if I go with a 2 1/2" tall air filter. To cold still to open the garage door so I tried to fire the motor up for just a second. First crank got a pop back through the carb
. So I got out and checked the plug wires, sure enough I had the #6 & #8 plug wires swapped at the plugs. Got back in and cranked again, she started
but only for a minute. Didn't want to asphyxiate myself. Engine didn't want to idle but figure just a timing and carb setup issue. Boy those open headers are loud
. Do have 2 issues though. Carb primary bowl leaks which is my fault cause I opened it up to make sure it was clean inside. Don't want aluminum chips floating around. The second issue is the pilot bushing is dragging on the trans input shaft. It is a new bushing which I checked on the trans before installing on the crank. I guess the press fit shrunk the bore of the bushing. Should have know better, the trans took a little work to get it to slip in. So the trans is going to have to come back out
. Here are a few more pictures.
