Changing the position won't help anything. Unless the distance between pulleys is shorter. Then they stay on better at high rpm. But if it doesn't throw belts now, there really nothing to be gained. Granted, it does load the crank bearing at a different angle, but it won't affect our engines, BB or SB, like it does on some cars.

Not necessarily true. There were some configurations (BB only) that have a belt from the crank to the water pump - no adjustment - you put the belt and pulley on together. I'm sure someone who is more familiar with this will chime in..

I have seen this, but I do not believe it has ever been factory. Some hot rodder had an explanation why it was a good idea, but it's impossible to adjust the belt. And all belts stretch.

I've seen that setup also, but pretty sure there's supposed to be an idler pulley to tension the belt.
