I was looking the the numbers book for the correct carb for my '69 with a 350/300. It listed 702902 or 702903. What's the difference? Is there a difference between auto and manual or are they the same carb? Last but not least, is there a date code and whre would it be?

902 is for an automatic transmission...903 is for a standard trans. I think the differences between the two models are minor...likely jetting and linkages, but could be substituted for one another with minor adjustments.

There is a date code. It's usually done in the Julian calendar format. It should be a four digit number...the first three digits indicate the exact day of the year (in numerical sequence), and the last digit should be the year of production. For example, the number 1939 would represent the 193 day of the year 1969.

Carter also made Q-Jets under license from GM and I believe their date codings were different. These Q-Jets are conspicuously marked as being made by Carter Carbs.
