My 80 Vette is having carb problems. I'm getting the "gas smell" when I park the car. My question is, would you rebuild the quadrajet carb that's in it, get a new quadrajet carb, or replace it with a Holley carb? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is the gas smell the only problem you are having with the carb? My '80 stinks of gas as well and I have heard there is some sort of charcoal cannister that can cause this if it is due to be replaced. If you go with replacing the carb. don't forget that it is a spread bore design meaning that the primary and secondaries are of different sizes. So, unless you are planning on replacing the intake manifold, you will need to stay with a spread bore design. One of the Vette guys around here runs a Holley made Q-jet and loves it. I would just check out what makes the most economic sense for you. Just make sure your carb really needs to be serviced or replaced and it is not something else.
