I'm really comfortable with changing out carbs, intake manifolds, all the accessories of the engine, but I've never opened up the heads or gone inside the block. I found a guy here who's doing 3yr/36k warranty for $1,300 and I know I can handle the install myself... Maybe I can customize something with him, and just have him do all the internals and leave the outside stuff for me...
But right now I'm still trying to figure out if I really need a rebuild.

what is the engine doing that makes you think you need a rebuild. smoking ? smoking at start?? knocking? down on power??

If I drive over a certain amount of RPMS (3k) it starts making a repetitive thunking sound. No smoking, low power, just that really loud repetitive knocking/thunking sound. I'm heading out to my garage right now to record it...
I'll see how I can digitally transfer it onto here... time to pull out the old laptop.
