hi everyone,
i have a 454 with oval port heads #353049,
i bought an edelbrock torquer 2-r intake manifold, i believe that has rect ports on it.
question is, will i have any problems with mating the 2 of them up?
i do not want to have to buy new heads if i don't have to and
i want to keep the torquer manifold.
my vette will be used for pleasure and daily driving.
i am not "souping" it up.
stk cam and crank and pistons.
any help is appreciated.
thanks,
joe

yes you will have very poor airflow

very turbulent.

when i bought my car someone had put a rect intake on oval heads...  I pur oval back on it and it came alive.

when the ports dont match up cleanly you cant have smooth airflow

Unfortunately, you cannot mix the two styles of ports...rectangular-oval. The manifold will bolt onto the heads, but the port mis-match will be massive. It really would be going backwards, in terms of air/fuel flow. Not to mention the possibility of a "gap" that could be there due to the large size of the rect. ports that the head may not cover, at the lower edge of the intake ports.
I remember a guy way back when, that tried to run an oval port tunnel-ram on square port heads. He couldn't figure out why the thing wouldn't idle less than 2500rpm. I had to point out that you could almost stick a finger in the gap between the intake and the heads around two of the ports. DOH!

Using the square intake on oval heads is not as bad as that, but it is still not a good idea...it just won't work.
