Vette(s): 1972 coupe/350 cid/mild cam/4 spd/20 ft. paint (looks perfect from 20 ft.), but it sure runs nice.
Can tired, stock heads benefit from a set of those fancy, anodized roller rockers or would it be throwing your money away? Some make claims of reduced oil and cylinder head temperatures. Can anybody confirm this?
Thanks.

I've heard of people gaining around 15+ hp with roller rockers. Less friction ='s more power and less heat. Right? But, I don't think that oil and cylinder head temps will be greatly lower though.
And if your heads are tired, I would personally have them freshened up, or get a good set of aftermarket heads. Just out of curiousity, what exactly are you looking to do or accomplish?

Sarge is on the money. They can also help depending on the rocker ratio. If you increase the ratio, the valve opens further, and the engine breathes better.

But as aready asked, What is the problem now?

Trying to gain hp without venturing too deeply into the engine, I guess. Higher CFM carb and hi-rise manifold, headers, etc....you know, shadetree mechanic stuff. The previous owner installed a mild cam and nothing else. By the way, happy Veterans Day, Sarge.

That just opened a whole new can of worms for me, Ken. I had no idea there were varying rocker ratios. What's the stock ratio on a base engine 350(1972) and if you were gonna be conservative, what would you increase it to?

JR

BTW, there are no temperature issues.

Well stock is about 1.5 ratio and a common upgrade is 1.6 for small blocks. I am running 1.6 rollers right now on my motor.

stock ratio on a big block is 1.7... I have never seen anyone use a different ratio...

I just looked and it seems comp cams doesnt seem to sell a different ratio for the BB.. they sell 1.5,1.55,1.6,1.65 for the small block

I wonder why??

maybe Ken knows the answer !!

correction

in a few of their lines they sell various alternate sizes 1.6 (SS),1.72(mag),1.73(SS), and 1.8(SS)

but 1.7 seems to be the norm... there are many more options for every other engine..
