I have factory rockers and want to upgrade. The ones I like are Comp Cams 1.52's. I want something dependable, lighter and within a budget of $300. A few more horses would be nice. I plan on installing them in a month or two. I need to hear from the experience on this site before I decide.

My father in law bought me a set of Harland Sharpe Roller Rockers for Christmas last year. I just got around to installing them about a month ago. I went from Comp Cams Roller Tip 1.52 to HS Roller Rocker 1.5. I gave up a little here but I also installed an Edlebrock RPM Airgap at the same time. So I cannot really offer up an apples to apples comparison but the car does seem to be a little quicker. Maybe this summer I can do another dyno run and see where I am at now compared to where I was at a few years ago.

Just the addition of a roller type rocker arm will give results you can feel. It will rev. quicker, and they will not "flex/bend" as much as the stockers. They also reduce the amount of friction involved greatly, which also decreases the amount of heat generated by the stock arms "rubbing".
Comp., Harland, Lunati, all make great products. Stay within the factory ratio(1.5-1.56) and you shouldn't have any pushrod issues. You will most likely have to use taller valve covers, as most rollers will not fit under the stock covers.

I used Crans gold 1.5's on my car and got my tall valve covers through a stree rod co.. I felt result right off the bat! Quicker acceleration better throtal response. Plus everything else the other guys mentioned. You won't regret the investment. I went one step futher and put screw in rocker studs in just to be safe.

just to clearify, I was about to install comp. cam's 1.52 roller tip rockers on my L-81 and I sure don't want to give up those sweet finned aluminum valve covers, shouldn't those clear

I tried to save the original covers, so we installed spacers  problem is more gaskets. They leak so I am changing to the tall Edlebrock covers and hope that helps. But I sure like the originals.

THANK YOU  74 RAGTOP,

Guess I'm not ready to go there yet. I have to work a part time job to finance the love of my corvettes and you just saved me the pleasure of finding out the hard way and I'm grateful. I hope I can do the same for some one sometime. Hmmmm, guess I'll save those rockers for the '78.

I made my choice, thanks to the advice I got here. I chose Crane Cams Gold 1.5's from Summitt only $280 with shipping. The motor is in and we'll be installing the all the accessories this weekend including new valve covers, the ones with the removable plate from Ecklers. I cant wait to start it, get it broken in and get after it. With the upgrades I've put into the car its going to be so much more fun to  drive.  Thanks to everyone on this site that helped out when I needed it. This site is such a great resource, no matter how obscure the question, someone on here knows the answer.

I start the suspension in a month or so. VBP seems to have the best up to date products, I can't wait.
