I put Flowmaster 50's on my CE. They bolt in but they are larger that stock and you can't use the factory rear muffler hangers. You might also have to have turndowns made too because they are thicker and it is a PITA to tuck them up there. I think in my sig you can see how they hang down, and they are tucked as much as I can do
The 1,6 will fit too! The problem is the locknut. If you use the polylock you must remove the oil drippers (not necessary for full fulcrum rollers) and a thick cork gasket to clear!

I use Crane Gold Race 1.6s on my Fast Burns and they worked just fine without any modification to the oil baffles.
I also have #40 Flowmasters. They also fit.

I have Flowmaster 40s on mine. They are great mufflers. The shop put them in at an angle, so it still looks kind of stock. The tips were bent to look the same as well. It turned out really nice. The sound is awesome. I felt like I had a different car after doing the exhaust mod. I'm not sure on the rocker question. I've been wondering it myself because I want some 1.6s in mine.

Hi
I tried flowmaster 50's and they would not fit under my 71 without hanging down. I did not want the noise of the 40's so i bought Dynomax Performance Mufflers from Mid America (www.madirect.com) and they were an easy, no mod installation.
