Well, she finally came out of storage a few days ago. Great to have the white princess back.
Unfortunately the engine isn't running well. The motor is completely stock, incuding the carb. It has 62K miles and for the past 2 years ran good. Now it wants to shut off while at a stop lite. It also has a split second hesitation whenever I give it throttle from a stop. There is fresh gasoline in the tank. A bottle of Gumout was poured in today and I ran it for 80 miles. 40 of those miles were on the PA Turnpike. Last year a new fuel filter was installed along with plugs, rotor, cap.
Is it time for a new carb or what
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I also have a slightly rough idle. Give it some gas, and it comes to life great. I also have put F.I. cleaner, Gumout, almost anything that will clean out old gas. It seems to be better than it used to be, but it still isn't perfect. it runs great, though. Gas mileage SUCKS!! About 10 most of the time...

After a few hundred miles, some spray Gumout carb cleaner, a few bottles of
carb cleaner in the gas tank, the idle seems to have smoothed out. Vacuum lines
appear to be intact. Maybe the white princess just needed to get out on the open
road a bit...

Out of storage rough idle is usually caused by a vacuum leak developing during storage as gaskets dry out. It pays to put some gas stabilizer in the tank and run it thru the carb so varnish doesn't form in the bowl over the winter. Most people don't need a new carb.
You can find a vacuum leak by spraying starting fluid around the suspect areas. when you spray the vacuum leak the idle will speed up.
One last thing, don't over tighten the two big bolts at the front of the carb, it is easy to warp the bowl and it will never run right. They only go about 5 foot lbs.

Joe-
Storage for the winter always includes a full tank of premium along with some gas stabilizer.
I think that's one reason she always starts without a problem after resting for 6 months.
But there must have been some kind of muck in the fuel system because the idle smoothed out after a few bottles of Gumout and a few hundred miles.
