 I recently saw a dyno test on tv where they ran regular straight 10W40 motor oil vs Royal Purple 10W40 Synthetic Oil.  They had a net gain in HP of about 11.  Now if I hadn't seen it, I would question the veracity of the claim.

 1. Anyone have any thoughts on Royal Purple Synthetic Oil?

 2. At what point should I make the switch from real oil to synthetic? I have about 3000 Miles on the new engine.

 3. Any thoughts on the HP gain?

Jim,

I think it's a bit over the edge for street driven cars. Don't get me wrong, I have used Royal Purple in a couple of 1/4 mile cars, but I don't think you'd get any more of a benefit than Mobil1 or Syntec - they are just as good for street performance purposes and will save you a few sheckles...

Jim;

Depends on how tight your engine is.  When I went with Castrol Syntec, I had leaky type problems that may be associated with the molecules being smaller and slicker.  I took an old 350 block and heads and had them reworked.  If you have a new crate engine, it shouldn't be a problem.

I didn't notice any reduction in hp with the non-synthetic oil.

Jim, if you're going to switch to a synthetic erl, now would be the time. The engine is broken in by now...

I know a lot of guys that swear by RP erls/products. I've never used them myself, tho.

Be sure and post your time slip. I'm gonna guess 13.5 @ 105mph. With a good RT you might do better.

As for the royal purple oil, IMO at $5 per quart ,it's a waste of $$. I tried it but went back to Valvoline

I've never raced on a drag strip before. With the engine swap and the new tranny, just want to see what it'll do in a safe environment.

 Not worth getting a ticket here in Virginia since a resident can now be given the death penalty for speeding here...(okay I may be exaggerating a bit but not much).
