My 72 LS5 is running a bit warm, tried the 160 thermostat it helped, but shes still warm, I also checked and flushed the radiator, water pump is pumping.
Shes running in the 220 range after a short run. This is a long shot if the belt is stretched and is adjusted as far in as possible could not enough tension cause the increase in tempeture? I even thought about using some water wetter any thoughts ?

Frank: Just my $.02 worth on this. I would first make sure the engine timming was correct. This will generate unwanted heat. The other is a question for you. Are the fan shroud seals in good shape. If the air is leaking around the shroud this defeats the shroud from pulling air thru the radiator. Dead heat of mid west summers bumper to bumper traffic never over 195. Good Luck Wayne

Like Big Block said the seals are important. Be sure to che the fan clutch as well. Have you verified that it is running hot? Gauge may be offf as well. How about vacuum leaks causing it to run to lean / hot? Just a couple of thoughts.

Changed the water pump this weekend she`s running 190-195 I think the pump was faltering under load causing it not to circulate like it should. I am having a problem finding a thermostat that wont stick. Seal`s are in of my own making, used some black foam packing material cut into 2' strips real thick stuff maybe 3' made a big difference no holes or gaps. Thanks again for the feed back. Time to enjoy and wait for the next chapter to unfold. I think i will still put that water wetter in just to see if she changes now that she`s running at a confortable temp. what do you think?
