I thought it might be the plugs, so I replaced them all. The plugs were prety bad, most of them had burned eletrodes (I think). They were gapped right and all but one were kind of a whitish color Cap and rotor look fine, no cracks or burnt places, wires are good, no corrosion. That leaves the carb, I guess. Or maybe the timing? Vaccum advance? Gremlins maybe? |laugh| I'm still kinda new to all this, but I'm learning fast! So far I've learned how to install calipers and pads, brake hoses, valve cover gaskets, water pumps, heater valves, seat belts, and the list is growing! I'm having a great time! Any help y'all can give would be greatly appreciated!

I'd break out the vacuum gauge and watch for needle bounce

define a little rough...how old are the wires. could be cross firing between wires.. check timing and vacuum advance. you will need a timing light.. a vacuum gauge is a good starting place to help narrow where to look. pull plug wires off one at a time to see if 1 cylinder is misfiring... do a compression check..had this problem and compression check found weak cylinder that had a cracked rocker arm. remove air cleaner top, cover carb inlet, engine should stall , if not look for vacuum leak or carb gasket bad or just loose....make sure choke is openning 100% when engine warms up. make sure vacuum lines are installed correctly. replace pcv valve. add 2 cans of good carb/fuel injector clener to the tank.

When I first start her up, she idles fine. Very smooth. After driving around for 10-15 minutes she idles rough, with a slight miss, and during initial acceleration she is not smooth. After the RPMs get over 1600 she runs fine and she still cruises good, the roughness is only in the lower RPM ranges and at idle, and only after she gets up to operating temp. Also, if I really punch the gas, she skips once, then she's fine. Hopefully y'all can help me diagnose all this. Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll do a lot of this tomorrow.

at idle is when vacuum is at its highest...this would lead me to a vacuum leak. when you step on the gas vacuum drops so its less noticable. vacuum leaks can be hidden everywhere. dust cacuum advance can, intake manifold gasket, power brake booster, carb gasket. ry operating vacuum controled items at idle and see what happens to the idle. step on the brake. open the headlights. turn on the heater and switch between defrost and air and floor and back again. check firing order. i once bought a car dirt cheap because it ran rough only to find the wires were on the wong plugs.

Could this maybe be just a small adjustment on the carb primary? Runs ok while cold ( choke is on ) then after choke drops out, it gets rough. Could just need to do an air fuel mix adjust? Bogs on acceleration and then ok. Needs more gas off idle? |headscratch|

Well, I haven't had the time to do any of the stuff y'all suggested, but the problem has disappeared. It must have been some old gas still in the tank or something. She runs just fine now. Go figure...

Bad/old gas can really make a difference. I went thru a similiar problem when I first took the car out of storage this year.
