Topic: Scrapping noice
in Forum: C3 Engines
Sometimes when I accelorate from a standing position, a scrapping noice come from the drivers side front. Anyone experience this? Possible causes?
Thanks but that isn't it. Brakes have been check and and are good.
Is the torque from acceleration twisting the engine enough so a pulley is rubbing?
I had this happen on my '75 where the power steering pump pulley was rubbing on the cross-frame under the pulley.
Interesting. How did you confirm thats what it was?
I could see some shinny on the outside of the pulley. The pulley sits in a bit of a well in that part of the cross-frame, and it is quite close to begin with.
We put a shorter belt on the PS pump, which then caused the alternator belt to be too close to the shaft of the PS pump, so we changed the pulley on the alternator to a double pulley, and moved the belt to the outer part of the pulley so the belt ran in front of the PS pulley (at least that is the way I think I remember it. . .).

I will definitely check that out and thanks.
Thanks but thats not it. I know that sound from experience unfortunately....lol

Here's a possibility. Check the fan mounting hub, and pulley to the waterpump. It may be loose. Mine runs very close to the waterpump. The torque on it may be enough to flex it to rub.
