Hi,

Got the 82 up on ramps in hopes of changing the spark plugs. The view of the plugs from under the car is not much better than from the top. If I remove the plug wire shields, will I be able to get to the plugs? Are there any tips or shortcuts?

Thanks,

Tom

you should be able to get at some of them by going in through the A-Frame holes the rest should be acessable from undernieth, you shouldn't have to take off the shields

On my '79 the front 3 on the drivers side, I change from on top, the 4th plug on the drivers side I change from underneath. The passenger side I change from the top. If you have an air compresser, blow out around the plugs, get a small piece of vacuum line hose and slide it over the end of the plug, this makes starting them easier, and if you keep the engine fairly clean and blow out around the plugs, then it keeps the new plug's from picking up any dirt as you put them in.  The tool companys make a flexible tool that does the same thing as the vacuum hose. They also make a dedicated tool for removing the plug wires when a boot is stubborn.
