Good tips Joe, but I would avoid the petrolum jelly. It is peretolum and as such can damage the insulation on the plug wire. Soap is good, so is silicone and WD40.

Good point about using a petrolum product on a regular plug wire Ken, I just used a dab towards the dist. end of the wire to get through the motor mount and through the tubes which I cut off to make the dist. end connection, besides if its good enough for a baby's butt, I don't think it will hurt the synthetic/silicone jacket on the MSD's or any chemical resistant performance wire, soap and silicone is good, I might add if you are going to do this process it should be done from under the car so that you can reach both the plug end and the tube end at the same time.
