I am working on installing a pair of Dynomax headers on my '79 L48. For those of you that are running headers, how do you route the plug wires? I was contemplating running them over the valve covers, using various separators and/or clips to hold them in place.
The factory set-up, at least on the driver's side, includes 2 wires run between the block and motor mount. If I were to re-route these, it seems they would be WAY too long.
I'm also considering going to a set of MSD, or Taylor, or Jacobs, or some such aftermarket wires. But, if I order a set for a '79 'vette I'm going to have a couple of excessively long wires. Do I need to order a set for a different model (Chevelle, Nova, etc) that originally routed the wires over the valve covers?
Thanks for any help or advice guys!
Ben

Vette(s): 1977 stingray,65k miles, hugger orange and side pipes and sounds very nice
i ran mine the way the factory did them it looks so nice that way ,but you can get them to look nice if you use wires tht match your motor and bar looms with the chevy emblem on it they will run over the valve covers that way and look nice ,its really up to you but stock i think is the best way to go !!

45 degree boots seem to be about right for my headers. I believe Summit Racing sells an MSD package with new boots and connectors, so you could cut your existing wires to length. Good Luck

if youre worried about length get the taylor..
you have to custom make the ends anyway..
and they are damn good wires..
i think msd has a custom set also..
but they mostly sell fitted sets
dont know about jacobs
I ran mine over the VC and used looms to hold it
i have some pics in this link

Stock is one option. You could also go with the wire looms and clips and wires off an 80s Caprice and they should work fine, and be a neat install.
I have headers and I run the wires up over the valve covers with clips and a wire loom (chevy logo). Just as a precaution, I also use heat shield boots on the plug end of the wires.

Vette(s): 1975 Coupe NOM 350: Edelbrock 64cc heads, QJet clone, Performer manifold & cam, gear drive and water pump; MSD ProBillet dist and 6A box, Comp rollers, Hedman headers into true duals, Magnaflow cans,TH400 w/shift kit, TT2's, 3.70RA, hi-rise hood
Moroso wires and looms on this small block. Follows lower edge of valve covers. Neat.

I changed my dist. from point to a tack.drive
HEI, because my motor has solid lifters I didn't want to pull the wires to pull the valve covers to set the valves,I bought MSD sprial core universal wires and ran the through the stock wire shrouds that run along the block and through the motor mounts, they had the 90' plug ends, they work well with hookers to get them through the shrouds and motor mounts without unbolting anything I removed the dist. boot and taped heavy 1/8 nylon string to the wire and pulled it from the plug side until the string came out, then reversed the the process and pulled the new wire back, them made up the dist.end up to fit, you will have to giggle the wires and string for them to go through feed and pull at the same time, a little vasoline on the wire doesn't hurt, very little,or liquid dish soap, also runing the wires under keeps the wires away from header and engine heat.
