Hello everyone and happy new year, long story short... Over X-mas break I was replacing various parts and pieces, ok top half of engine: Starter, alternator, carb, harmonic bal, timing chain, headers, Trying to stay away from mother in law! So I start put it all back together and find the crank shaft bolt had previously been broken off, ugh! So towed it down to machine shop they had to pull it to drill the bolt out. Now its back home have it all back together but I am having problems now.
Primary problem, cannot get ignition to turn starter.
I have read all the forums, I pulled the neutral safety switch, ordered a new one (today) but I have conduction when in neutral measured across the yellow and purple wires. When I turn ignition I get 12.6 volts or so at the yellow wire. So I bypassed the safety switch and the bypass wire got really hot really quick and burned! So I cut some 4 gauge wire and spliced it between the yellow wire the the ignition wire coming up from the starter. Still nothing and the wire was getting hot! I have examined all the wires to and from the starter, I am getting 12.6 volts at the starter, there are the two other red wires attached to the primary post and then the ignition wire to the screw post. Starter does turn I ran direct leads from battery to starter and it turned...

Figured running the bypass wire would do it, bypass the short but no luck...
I am guess I have a short some where but for the life of me or my poor car I cannot find it, any suggestions???

Thanks for all the help, solved it! Laying under the car staring up at the starter and I see the edge of the ignition wire connector touching the edge of the starter housing, it was grounding itself out... Yay problem fixed and it was easy, once I found it!!!!
Anyone live around Vero Beach Sebastian Florida area???
Thanks again
Steve

Steve..... are you talking to yourself again?
Glad you found it, electrical can be very frustrating, I just saw this post but would have said you must have bump'd or put a wire in the wrong spot.
Sometimes my wife will answer her own questions like that........those are great moments.....

Now go drive that thang!
